First off, thanks everyone for your support for my Dad. It was close. John Curtis is a good man and I am sure he'll bring a great energy to our city. I need to be honest here though, the new city council is a train wreck. Not even one I can manage to watch. Brace yourselves. Brace, brace, brace!
Secondly, on to the weekend plans. So much going on!

Bijou Market is coming to town this Saturday on November 7th and has brought with it a basket for me to giveaway! (See below for details.) Here is what I like about Bijou Market, it is a tri-annual handmade event produced by three Utah Valley women (is there a theme of three here?) All vendors are local, if not from Utah County then Utah or neighboring states. Mostly, I am so thrilled about the event being held on 9th east (by Stan's, across from Golds) which is down the street from me! I hope to cross off my Christmas lists early and have the warm fuzzy of shopping local.
Go early and shop, then for lunch hop over to Stan's. Even if all you order is a plate of fries with sauce you will not be disappointed. Chup and I call label them Provo's Best Fries.
See more info on invite above, or go to bijoumarket.com for giveaways, and a sneak peak of what is to come!

I looked at the line-up of talent and it looks to be a very enjoyable evening. Headlining the event is Corbin Allred with Adam Johnson as MC. In full disclosure, my husband has sometimes calls Adam my boyfriend because I think he's great on film. Now I need to further explain this comment by adding that my husband and Adam are friends and this shouldn't be awkward. But now I am feeling awkward, so instead of pressing delete I shall just move on.
See more about the event by going to coveycenter.org
For a dinner recommendation before the show, may I suggest the gnocchi at Gloria's Little Italy. I like it smothering in pink sauce. Then I like to cap things off with a mini nutella tart. Read Provo's own Rookie Cookie for her review of the place. (Also, get reservations!)
Are you still with me?
Great because I have a prize basket to unload on one lucky c jane's guide to Provo reader courtesy of Bijou Market.
Behold Neighbors, I give you a giveaway!
One lucky winner will receive all of these pieces . . .

«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 253 Newer› Newest»I love all the yummy new restaurants in downtown Provo - Communal, Rooster, Gloria's, there's another one named one I like but I can't think of the name. Good food!!
I loveee giveaways. Almost as much as I love the orange rolls at the Provo bakery. or Shirleys bakery. I can't decide.
For restaurants, I love the Bombay House and Thai Ruby. Be still, my hungry heart!
The Flower Basket is also fun for pretty, girly things, as is the recently discovered (to me) Cherry Lane Keepsakes.
I am so excited you posted about the benefit concert for EB! I sang with Jamie in Women's Chorus at BYU. She is one of the sweetest girls you will ever meet! A true inspiration. Doesn't she look stunning in that picture?! I'm so happy to know about this event. Thanx so much!!
oh my goodness! That bicycle necklace has been on my christmas list for weeks!!
Flower Basket Boutique. And Soel Boutique.
They make gift giving even more pleasant!
win ALL of them! oh my goodness! this is amazing! please pick me.
favorite locally owned place: Rooster! such a great place.
Thai Ruby. (Near J Dawgs). Delicious, authentic food for a great price. Excellent service too. You will crave that curry flavor until the next time you go.
Dude:
For eating:
La Carreta
De Mae
Sweet Tooth Fairy
And you can't beat Jay's Jungle for giant aquariums filled with lizards. (not for eating, though.)
Thai Ruby... we live far far away and I still dream of their Beef Thai Salad.
Does one need to be a Provo resident to enter?
If not, I am dying to try Rooster next time I'm in Provo. I drool everytime you talk about it!
Although I've never lived there, I grew up coming to Provo often to visit my grandparents. I'm not very good at knowing where Provo ends and Orem starts, but my favorite business is one that is no longer in business. It was called Fruits, Nuts, and Stuff in the University Mall. It was an old fashioned candy store and it belonged to my grandparents. What a magical part of my childhood. I was literally like a kid in a candy store, but instead of parents to limit me, I had grandparents to turn me loose. The store has been closed for like 15 years, but it still holds so much meaning for me. I think it is a clock store now, but I would love to know if anybody remembers this gem of my youth? As for now, can't come to Provo without hitting J Dogs for a cross-cut grilled dog with sauce, banana peppers, and an apple beer. So good! -Andrea from California
I think Stans is one of my faves...my mom worked there when she was growing up so I have been raised on Stans fries!
My favorite is Shirley's Bakery. Just discovered their raspberry rolls on Saturday, YUM!
sweet tooth fairy and glorias. but i love the shout out to jay's jungle! you really have to be local to appreciate that!
Sammy's!! I am addicted to their sweet potatoe fries!
Oh fart slow fingers. I was going to say Sammy's as well, because I love their fries and milkshakes, but kitty corner from them is a delicious Indian place....I can't remember the name of that either....double fart.
I LOVE Four Seasons Hot Pot!! I always take visiting guests to this little but delicious restaurant in downtown Provo. It's such a fun experience and the owners are so sweet. Oh, and the handmade dumplings are what dreams are made of (well, at least my dreams)
Ditto on orange rolls at Shirley's Bakery. And how about the White Willow Reception Center. They do awesome dinners and parties!
I love Shirley's Bakery and Bombay House. Both of them are so good! I miss Provo.
Provo has many wonderful businesses but our favorites lately are Mad Dog Cycles and Heindselman's. They support several of our families hobbies!
I love Rock Canyon Pharmacy by Day's Market. They offer great, personal service. They remember the names of my kids and all the details of my life. Even when I moved away for two years and came back they didn't miss a beat!
Sweet Tooth Fairy (fudgy, sinful cake bite goodness!), Rooster (Chocolate Lava Cake with Hazelnut Whipped Cream... oh my!), Provo Bakery (homemade eclairs from HEAVEN!), Hines Mansion Bed and Breakfast (hidden bathroom in the library room!) and La Dolce Vita (Chicken Pesto Pizza).
Provo has so many awesome restaurants. One of my favorite date night with my husband is to try a new local place each week. We love the India Palace on Center Street, the Thai Kitchen, Dew, and Spark. I love Provo and I'm going to miss it so much when we move in December.
OOOOOOOoo I love this blog!! Locally owned Provo businesses!! RIPPLES!! The best!
I love Soel Boutique. What a great giveaway!!
I am excited for the Market. Thanks.
This is a hard one! I love Provo Bakery, but I think my favorite right now would have to be Communal! The food literally melted in my mouth and I loved every second of it!
This is funny. I don't know how i ended up here..but now I am entering a drawing for a city I have only recorded albums in. My choice: Diego's. mainly b/c while recording we eat at Diego's everyday, till about day 5 when I have to protest.

sorry about your pops.
What bounty!
We're sad at our house about your dad. Also, we live dangerously close to the tracks. Train wreck indeed.
We ate at India Palace last night, and it was so very delicious.
I LOVE shirleys- and the flower basket, I want to take everything there home!
I love the little gelato shop on Center street. I have only gone there a handful of times but my little girls love the tiny portions and spoons and the atmosphere is just deliciously sweet!- Jessica Martin
I love the flower basket boutique and Kaleidescope. There are alot of fun places in Provo, I wish we could make the hour drive there more often! Oh! and Sammy's to get a pie shake!
Ok I love The Flower Basket! Is that locally owned? I have no idea, but I'm going to guess yes. It's adorable, regardless.
I was trying to come up with which I would put as my favorite and asked my husband his opinion. He quickly replied, "Vallejo Drywall" (the drywall business he owns). I said, "Oh yeah, of course that's mine too, but which one after that?" He knew I hadn't even been thinking of saying Vallejo Drywall and was a little disappointed in me. Oops. :D
So AFTER Vallejo Drywall, I'd have to say that I LOVE Gloria's and the Provo Bakery. It's really hard to choose between the two.
Sammie's and Ottavio's. Mmmm.... now I'm hungry!
This giveaway is so cute!
anne@seantnichols.com
Sweet Tooth Fairy!
So many choices... I love Sweet Tooth Fairy (esp the Va-NIE-lla cupcakes, seriously lovely.) the gnocchi from La Dolce Vita, and Thai Ruby anything. mmmmm....... sounds like I know whats for dinner. :)
I voted for you Dad. I agree about the council.
India Palace is so so so good. I'm craving it right now!!
I LOVE Rooster!
Since my husband and I are in the poor college student phase of life, we're fans of the Creamery on 9th kids meals. Talk about delish for only 3.50!!
I'm from Utah but don't live there anymore. I sure miss it! Whenever I go visit I am sure to be in Provo for one of these local businesses:
Sushi Ya! (They have the best sushi of anywhere I've been. And I've tried a lot of places.)
you can see a photo here: http://gusafam.blogspot.com/2009/08/there-and-back-part-1.html
the "Life Clinic" (Cindy Black is amazing!)
information here: http://www.utahlifeclinic.com/
Sammie's and Provo Bakery! We've only been in Provo since June and my list of places to try is looong...thanks to you!
You said locally owned business and I'm going to join the crowd and mention a restaurant: Pantrucas. It's a Chilean restaurant off Canyon Road in the Days Market shopping center. If you haven't been there you want to try the Churrascos Palta Sandwich(Steak Avocado Tomato), it's unbelievable!
So I haven't "lived" in Provo for a while, but my grandmother has been there all my life and I visit as often as I can. She lives a few blocks from Ripples. It is on Canyon Rd. - the FRESH LIME is the best you will ever have. I PROMISE. Not to mention the blackberry shake. Seriously.
Now I am hungry.
I love Los Hermanos. Their chips and salsa are SO good plus they have so many yummy meals. I was routing for your dad and wished I could vote for him! Too bad I live in Orem.
I love Bombay House, and I loved Smart Cookie too...but I heard it is now gone. So sad. Too many things close in Provo it's ridiculous.
One of my favorite locally owned businesses is Chaos, on Univeristy and maybe 2 north-ish. The little chinese couple are the nicest people you might ever meet, they have an AWESOME selection and everything is crazy inexpensive!!! I highly recommend it! Pick ME!
The Bombay House smells really good. We lived right behind it in college but never went there because we couldn't afford to eat out.
I love J-Dawgs, and recently discovered the Key Lime cupcakes at The Sweet Tooth Fairy. As you can tell, I love food and freebies!!!!
I don't know if all or some of these are locally owned, so I am going to say my top faves are Ream's, Flower Patch, and Tommy's Burgers.
Though I dont live in Provo, but plan to move there, we eat at the Bombay House when we get together with long time friends. It's awesome!
Bombay House and Creamery on 9th :-) good memories.
I just love Provo, period. My husband is in Iraq, so every month since January I have packed my infant son, Max, up and we have painted the Provo streets red. My Grandparents and Sister live in Provo. The Grandparents are retired after being art professors at BYU, and my sister is currently an art student there. The first day I'm there, we all have lunch at SPARK and get cupcakes at The Sweet Tooth Fairy. There are also several trips to JDawgs and Bombay House. I love shopping at Riverwoods (so sad that Black Chandelier closed!!) and seeing movies at the newly renovated University Mall theaters. I also love driving up and down the tree lanes wishing I lived there.
My husband and I both absolutely love Bombay House. It always sounds good!
Thai Ruby, Pizzeria 712, Soel Boutique, Flower Basket, Sweet Tooth Fairy, and Spark. Love how people are revamping downtown.
although I heard it closed, I always loved ripples! it's been too long since I've been to provo...
This is such a fun place and they switch it up every few weeks. They even have a scrapbook you can read about the history of the building as the old BYU Women's Gymnasium. My grandpa helped lay the wood floors in the early 1900's and when I told the owner she was so nice and told me when I had time I could come look around behind the scenes and see all the original stuff.
http://www.cherrylanekeepsakes.com/Boutique.htm
Thai Ruby! It's my birthday dinner of choice every year.
mmm mmm mmm.
My favorite local business is ala board. They don't have a store front but they make beautiful magnet, dry erase, calendars. I have two in my house and I love them both! Thanks for a great giveaway!
Bombay House & JDawg's (haven't had one of those in a while)
What a fun giveaway!
Cheers!
With out a doubt it has to be The Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery. Sugar will win me over every time!
Those cupcakes are to die for!
Whaaa?!? All of those? That is incredible. As for my favorite locally owned business- Saigon Cafe in Provo is AWESOME!
sweet tooth fairy Ă
My vote is for my neighbor Gloria of Gloria's Little Italy.
Give aways are awesome! For my favorite locally owned places in Provo I would have to go with Gloria's Little Italy (I'm so happy they moved to downtown), Sensuous Sandwich (I think this is local), and J Dawgs!!!! Coal Umbrella is a pretty neat little store, too.
do i have to choose one? i grew up in provo and have recently moved so thinking about all the places i love in provo is making me sort of depressed yet nostalgic.
stan's is one of my favorite places in all of the world. no one can make a better fry and sauce.
Guru's on Center Street, for sure.
El Azteca when I'm in the mood for nachos.
Amano Chocolate is amazing, too (they're in Orem).
Love La Dolce Vita, Bombay House and Lon's Cookin Shack.
The Provo Bakery (do they still make those cherry muffins?), and Walker's Bridal (I will never have a job that's more fun).
My husband used to drag me to Lon's Cookin' Shack over and over until I too was dreaming about the Fried Cauliflower. It wasn't an immediate favorite, but I haven't had anything from the cabbage family deep fried since... so I miss it and it becomes more favorite. I also had my first thai food at Thai Ruby and have had a love affair with thai curry ever since.
That's easy, Provo Bakery-never knew knew I loved apple fritters until I met them!
Sweet Tooth Fairy, and Guru's, and all the little photography studios, and Los Hermanos especially the fried ice cream, and Sammy's, and RICE KING for their orange or szechwan tofu, and I know the ugly boutique in the old BYU women's gymnasium doesn't count but I just think that building is so beautiful.
Can I have a favorite Provo business if I have never been to Provo - easily Sweet Tooth Fairy Gourmet Bake Shop. Every blog post that features one of their cupcakes (and there have been plenty) makes me want to hop a plane and get to Provo ASAP.
I would have to say Shirley's or the Creamery. We've started some nice family traditions of going to the Creamery...can't beat that!
I am so glad you appreciate Gloria's like I do. This very night, my husband and I are escaping after the children are asleep. Maybe Gloria's will be it. That gnocchi is just delightful. Although I have never had the Nutella tart. Nutella and I have a special relationship.
My favorite locally owned company Thai Chili Gardens. I want some pineapple curry!!
oh Coal Umbrella no question! their vintage clothing is to die for!!! and actually they were just awarded best small business in utah valley and also best best vintage fashion in utah! thats somethin right there!
Chef's Table...
The very brand new Lady Danburry Tailoring and Design! It will be a hit, it WILL be a hit!!
Provo Bakery!
Oooh, so many lovely Provo businesses. I love Shirley's, Pioneer Book (I am a total book freak!), Rooster (I tried this one per your recommendation and I LOVED IT.), and Spark is fun with friends on the weekend.
can't wait for Bijou!
I love going into the Flower Boutique. And I love getting great shoes at the Modern Shoe Repaire.
Oh Provo! My favorite restaraunts are:
Nicolitalia Pizza (BEST PIZZA ON THE WEST COAST!!!)
Spicy Thai
Sammys
and of course, ROOSTER (mmmmmmmm)
and the best places to shop are:
Flower Basket Boutique (down the street from my house=bad for my bank account.)
and Mode Boutique and Coal Umbrella were my havens and they BOTH recently closed down and my heart broke a little.
in case you were wondering.
Also, I want to shoot myself in the foot because I am going to AZ this weekend and will miss this Bijou Market- the last one was HEAVEN. get something good for me???
So many!!! But I would have to say. . . I love Sammy's, Soel Boutique, Flower Basket, and I tried Rooster for the first time today and it was fantastic!
We love India Palace. One of the owners came up and hand fed my 4-year old when he wasn't eating. It was hysterical.
Also, you cannot forget Pioneer Books. They have a new cafe in there which serves great Panini and waffles. PICK ME! PICK ME!
STANS by far is one of my favorite places. I used to live across the street from there before I got married but I still live up the street in Wymount. Such a wholesome, down to earth, American dream kind of place. I also love Muse cafe. They have a dollar photo booth and I have a (not-so-secret) obsession with photo booth pictures.
I have to say, Rooster. Such good food and love the owners (they are my parents across the street neighbors. :))
Wouldn't make it through the summer without evenings spent at the Scera Outdoor theater.
My favorite little place in Provo has to be Osaka's. We only go their once a year( new Years eve, but I look forward to it all year long. we request a private room where you must take off your shoes and sit on the floor. So much fun!!!!
I love Shirley's bakery, the cinnamon rolls are just divine!
The Indian Palace has the best service in Provo.
Guru's sweet potato fries should never be passed up.
Sweet Tooth Fairy, Provo Bakery, Rooster, El Gallo Giro. . . I suppose I like food. But I also like handmade lovies, so I would love to win!
I like the Coffee Pod in Provo. Great little cafe and good food. They also have the famous Cupcake Chic cupcakes!
I don't live in Provo anymore so I don't know if I qualify, but I do have a couple things that I love: The Great Steak Sandwich Co on Center Street and Los Hermanos. MMmm.
Orange rolls at the Provo Bakery. Mmmmm!
Definitely RACER'S CYCLE SERVICE. They take such good care of my bikes.
As for food: ROOSTER and INDIA PALACE
I LOVE living in PROVO.
Definitely Great Salt Lake Guitar Company. Definitely.
Love love love Sweet Tooth Fairy =)
I la-la-la-la-LOVE El Salvador on Center St. My husband and I eat while a little abuelita entertains my kids in the kitchen with pastries and Spanish novelas.
Tommy's Burger. I know you're not a meat eater, but I can't go to Provo without stopping by.
And if you knew the story of the owner and family.... The American Dream lives!
I've never seen such a sumptuous giveaway. I will now officially be attending the market. As for favorite local businesses, to name a few... Metropolitan Salon, Velour, Spicy Thai, Many Lands Market, and finally Alice Lane Home (just to show a little orem love--that's local enough, no?)
My favorite place is the park on about 800 E & Center. My daughter just loves the slides!
My absolute favorite is J Dawgs but I also love the creamery (I always get a kid's meal and add vegetables to my cheese burger- cheap and soooo yummy) and Spark.
What an amazing giveaway! :)
I would have to say that the Provo Bakery and Creamery are a Provo original! LOVE going there and trying their yummy ice cream flavors!
La Dolce Vita! Is it still there? The best Italian food I've eaten since being home from my LDS mission.
Stans and Sweet Tooth Fairy for sure!!!
Soel Boutique, Sweet Tooth Fairy, Stuart Frasier Salon, and the El Salvador Restaurant on Center.
Food--Brick Oven.
Local Business--Carpenter Seed. I HEART my snowblower and they fixed it. Bring on the Snow
I ended up going to Gloria's tonight. Just got home. Gnocchi with pink sauce and leftovers for lunch tomorrow.
Thanks for reminding me how much I love that stuff.
Creamery on 9th. The freshman 15 paradise.
I (unfortunately) don't live in Provo anymore, but my family still resides in Alpine. My little sis works at Dear Lizzie and I am a completely loyal customer to both Dear Lizzie and La-Ti-Da.
*Highland counts as being in the "Provo Area", right?
I love the dried cherries and apples from Allreds (sp?)
I live in Holladay, but I am in Provo a ton because, my father in law is your Stake President. And I could tell you some funny stories about him if I win!!!
Oh please shower me with your love! I want to win! I have never heard of the Bijou Market...let's just say I am headed there this weekend! I love Los Hermonos and a new place called Pizza Pie Cafe (where Tony Romas use to be.) It is Yummy. Try the Spud-O-licous and the Wing and Thing Pizza!
Shirley's Bakery thanks to their cinnamon roll pull-aparts that my best friend used to bring home for me when we worked there!
Living in the land of Mexican food in Southern Az, I have to say, I still love Los Hermanos when we are in town. Oh and there used to be a Cuban restaurant aound the corner from there...black beans and rice with generous amounts of salsa.
If I had to choose a place in Provo, it'd have to be Brick Oven- the chicken noodle soup is the greatest, if you'll let me venture into Orem I'd have to say check out Pirate Island Pizza!!!!
Chelsea
Sweet tooth fairy baby. I would drive an hour for those goodies any day.
Holladayfam at gmail dot com
My favorite place was the giving tree on 500 w and 100 s. However, to my great dismayal, it closed down the end of August. It was the cutest consignment store! It had everything a second hand gal could dream of! Although this little jem is now longer a part of my Provonian life, you can still see the remants of it's existance.
My next favorite place is Chao's on University Ave. My husband and I love going there to sort through the numerous Asian treats. Our favorite is the chocolate filled panda cookies that are only .80 a box!
I have to go for "Saigon Cafe" on 300 S. When I need my Vietnam Pho fix... it's where it's at! But when I'm feeling my true Vietnam days nothing beats the little Asian market "Chao's" on University Ave. And they are always SO kind!
The Flower Basket and Boutique! Owned by Provo original Bonnie Whitaker!
i've got quite a few of favorites, but ever since i can remember my family has gone to shirley's bakery for their absolutely {delicious} cinnamon rolls.
j.dawgs is also a personal favorite.
yay for giveaways! i'd love to win! :)
Provo Bakery--Y donuts and apple fritters on Saturday mornings. Mad Dog's--My husband couldn't live without them!
I fell in love with Rooster the moment I stepped inside. Thanks for the suggestion!
I am completely in love with the Sweet Tooth Fairy. The Grasshopper cupcake-AMAZING! Cake bites-DELICIOUS! Oh and gelato from Maestros! Hmm.. I'm sensing a theme here! Provo sure knows how to do treats!
I love to do my grocery shopping at Day's Market on Canyon Road because Alan Day is actually THERE and willing to take suggestions on which tortillas to stock in his store. I feel like I'm a HUMAN BEING of VALUE when a store owner actually listens to my preferences on tortillas.
Also, the size of store is manageable, the veggies are fresh, the college kids at the checkout counter are quite pleasant. I am HAPPY after my grocery shopping expedition.
i love the soel boutique!& rooster!!!!!!
Sweet Tooth Fairy!!! I can't get enough of their Va-Nie-lla cupcakes!
I would have to be Shirley's Bakery...I love their rolls!
Although we havent lived in provo for 13years every year when we visit family we still have to eat at SENSUOUS SANDWICH ! It still is the best sub even from vegas!!!linda
I absolutely love the Sweet Tooth Fairy and this one used bookstore downtown. (I don't officially live in provo yet so forgive me for forgetting the name, but it is so great!)
Rooster! I know I'm not from Provo, but while wandering around this week I insisted on eatting there. I've convinced my hubby. Rooster it was. Rooster is Rawesome!!!
Gloria's!
Yes please!! I love to visit the Soel boutique when I am in town! That store gets my creative juices flowing!
When I was going to school, I used to eat at the Bamboo Hut all the time. Is that still around?
I would love to give Rooster a shot. I hear it is great!
Provo Bakery & Bloomers. So sad that Bloomers is leaving.
I love Sweet Tooth Fairy, Gloria's, Soel Boutique, Pioneer Book, and so many more! Hope I win....
Sammy's! I also really like Sweet tooth fairy.
I don't know if this will count because you already mentioned it, but Glorias is delicious and authentic! She was one of my old young women leaders and she taught me some secrets to some great pasta dishes.
It has been six years since I lived in Provo but we always loved to go to Brick Oven and have their delicious pasta.
I love La Doche Vida (not sure on the spelling) but small little Italian place in downtown Provo. Love their food and the atmosphere is very family friendly
Stans!
Haven't had their fries in twenty years, but glad to know they're still the best!
I LOVE Tommy's Burgers. They are so yummy and their fries are delish.
sweet tooth fairy bakery. I love sugar
Well, I have never been to Provo, but the sweet tooth fairy bakery was very nice when I called them to order cupcakes for Stephanie.
I like Los Hermanos mainly because my first date with my husband was there and after we were married he worked as a server there. I like their location and the big windows that face the street. I heart Provo.
Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery!!!
I want her secrets!
Painted Temple: Tattoo-Art-Jewelry, We Cater to Sinners and Saints.
They do awesome work there!
Sweet Tooth Fairy....mmmmmmmm
I would definitely have to say my favorite right now is Sammy's. How can you beat "whole pie" shakes? mmmmmm!
P.S.
I hope I win!!
Eliane's French Bakery, amazing! I love Ottavio's too, such great people. I'm super sad Crazy Canucks closed in downtown Provo. I stocked up on Canadian candy bars, mmmm. And not retail, but I love that Provo library.
i'd have to say a favorite of ours was thai ruby on 820 N 700 E. we've tried a few other thai places in provo/orem and that was our favorite by far! you HAVE to get the sticky rice with mangos for dessert. sooooooo good!
I love Thai Ruby! The food is great and the service too. Some friends of ours introduced us to the place and we've loved it ever since.
I love the Flower Basket, the house is so adorable, and I love the idea of a flower shop/boutique. I also really love Gloria's Little Italy, I can never choose between the pesto and the pink sauce. And those chocolate cakes are incredible. And does Macey's count? Provo is not their only location, but I love to buy my groceries there. Especially since you have to see at least one person you know every time you visit.
J Dawgs, what can I say, I'm a sucker for hot dogs. Their special sauce and pickles are amazing! :)
I love love LOVE The Bombay House. And Kneaders. Man oh man how I miss Provo and its eats.
I love Indian food, so Bombay House and Indian Palace are at the top of my list. For our anniversary we got take out from Indian Palace and took a scooter up Provo Canyon, but forgot any silverware! Fortunately we had plenty of naan, so we just ate with our hands and washed them in the river when we were done. The AMAZING food, the beauty of the canyon on a perfect September day, we LOVE this memory! I suggest everyone do the same sometime. But remember to forget the silverware...it really is better that way=)
The guys at Mullet Hoover are wonderful, they have amazing jewelry and they are a great local business. Also, a great food joint is Sammy's. Have you tried the cupcake shakes? They use cupcakes from Sweet Tooth Fairy...yummy!
So many great places in Provo... but I'll have to go with J-Dawgs. I just love them; they make hotdogs sound good anytime of day!
spicy thai restaurant on university has the best massman curry i have ever tasted! you have to try it.
Does Orem count? I love Pizzeria 712 with my whole wallet. If not, I'll go with Communal.
I hope Spanish Fork is close enough... because my favorite little baby jewlery store is My Little Sweetpea! If you have little girls you must have one of these (o and they have cute blankets, burpies, binki clips and the whole bit for little boys and girls)
I LOVE downtown Provo. I have to say Sweet Tooth Fairy takes the cake though (ha! no pun intended).
We just moved out of Provo, and now everytime we go back for a BYU game, I make sure to stop and pick up a sugar cookie. MmmmMMmmmm
I live in SLC, so I don't go to Provo often, however I was recently there for work and popped into Provo Bakery with your recommendation on my mind. The sugar cookies! The chocolate chocolate donut! The donut holes! Okay, I didn't eat ALL that by myself, but I had bites of each of the treats I brought home for my kids and husband. It was exactly what I pictures: Quaint, family-friendly, real and cozy. That's my pick...
i love sub zero ice cream! my hubby loves mad dog cycles (but i think that's in orem).
I know you already mentioned Stan's, and I shouldn't use it, but I adore that place. Seriously - the fries are to die for. Oh well, I'll have to go for another greasy spoon, Ripple's on Canyon Road. I grew up behind it and love it.
Dance Works. Where we got all our necessary dance apparel - point shoes, tights, tutus, ballroom shoes, leggings, swishy skirts, costumes, etc.
My good friend Dallas even creates custom point shoes, they are a work of art!
Provo Bakery and Sweet Tooth Fairy! I love my baked goods!
The top three for our family:
Shirley's Bakery on Freedom. Their orange rolls are the best!
JDawgs. Yumm.
Ripples on Canyon Road. Limeades are what summer is all about.
I'm new to Provo and just discovered Soel Boutique--loved it!
Rooster! But i must say, there are so many others! Oh how i love Provo.
Nicolitalia Pizzeria!
Those giveaway items are CUTE!
I'm agreeing with the previous comments of La Dolce Vita. Not too expensive, they are original Italian recipes with little or no garlic(unlike other chain restaurants) and the comment about it being great family friendly atmosphere is spot on. I've loved this place for a long time. Although it came in second to La Buena Vita that was on 1st west and center, but has been closed for many years now(I would argue that they had the best gnocchi). And we've only been there once, but the Hines Mansion was wonderful and I love the location.
P.S. I think this question was brilliant. I loved reading through the comments to see if there are places I've never heard of. and its a great little spot for your reader's to give plugs to those greta store owners, even if we don't know them.
oooooh la la!
I love the giveaway items!
My favorite business in Provo, although probably cliche, is Soel Boutique in the Riverwoods!
LOOOOVE it. I used to work at Tucanos, and as soon as I'd get off work I'd take my tips over to soel and SPEND them.
It was so great... until it was time to pay rent.
Hmm... a few Provo favorites are Joe Vera's, Coal Umbrella and Juicy Nails. Juicy is the best for pedicures!!
I love Alice Lane on state street! Such an inspirational store for home decor.
Magelby's Fresh (could drink the syrup) and the Malt Shoppe (try the peanut butter, peanut butter cup shake. My roomates and I used to eat them every Monday night.) I also really love the MOA Cafe (can you say poppyseed pasta?!?!?)
Lunch with my hubby at Ottavio's on beautiful Center Street. Dave's Bernina store is great, too.
I love Stans. My brother and I always went on Monday night for half price shakes. Yum. I go everytime I visit Utar.
Ottavio's on center...was my favorite when we moved 7 years ago...sigh! My husband used to eat, study (most quiet place he could find), and spend way too much of our student budget at Sam Hawk. I hope all these are still around so they can benefit from a revived downtown!
I love that boutique on the corner of 5th N and University. They have the cutest handbags! Also, it's pretty awesome that it's in the old BYA Gymnasium. I love that building.
Sweet Toothfairy.
I live on the east coast. I have not been to provo but I want to do a cross country roadtrip one day! I have gone through the comments and have read through the locals favorite places. I'll have to check them out one day!
Either way, everything looks so cute! I hope to be picked
Love sweet tooth fairy.. and LOVE your blogs-all of them!!
With all the cupcakeries in Utah County, it's hard to choose, but I would dare say Cupcake Chic or Sweet Tooth Fairy!
Mmm, so many good local places to choose from. I spent 6 lovely years in Provo while attending BYU, and I'm excited to see that Provo keeps adding more flare, especially to their downtown area. Malt Shoppe was my favorite shake go-to joint, Guru's has the best sweet potato fries, Gloria's Little Italy is such a cute little authentic restaurant, White Willow is a beautiful reception center, the El Salvadorian place on Center Street has awesomely delicious pupusas, Velour has seen some incredible musical talent over the years (specifically Fictionist), and I can't wait to try Rooster Noodle Bar, Spark, and Communal. My mouth is watering!
I know it's a repeat but Shirley's has the best soft and gooey sweet rolls EVER!
Oh my goodness this giveaway is awesome! I actually don't live in P-Vo but I would have to say my favorite place would be where I got my wedding dress: Walker's Bridal! And for 250 bucks!! It was magical
Mine and my husband's favorite is definitely Lon's Cookin' Shack on University. They have the only potato salad that my husband will eat. Oh, I'm totally having a craving now!
Ooohh, pick me, pick me! Everything is fab, but that bicycle locket is a must have.
When my husband and I first started dating he was a "zoob" and ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at Los Amigos there in Provo. To be totally honest, I'd never even dared attempt the place. Then when he told me he loved it so much he'd decided that his wedding luncheon would be catered by Los, well that was nearly a deal breaker.
Then I went there.
And suddenly like water, like breath, like rain (Leann Rimes) I needed it. Oh how I needed that smothered burrito with cheese and onions--again, and again and again!
It is still our "go to" when we're stumped on date night dining.
I love Sammy's! Perfect for anytime and great on weekends when the local bands play outside.
Sweet Tooth Fairy! Mmmmm. I love cupcakes.
i'm going with clark mechanical contractors. quality things are created by the Clark family -- people, ideas, art, structures.
it's a toss-up between rooster and thai ruby.
What girl's favorite locally owned place isn't The Sweet Tooth Fairy! Followed by a close second Gloria's Little Italy. We know them. We love them. Never tried the gnocci though- especially in the pink sauce! I shall try that next time in your honor!
We don't live their anymore, but I have to say that every time we are up visiting family, we have to go to Stan's and get a Milk Shake. And how I miss Joe Vera's!
Rooster and Sweet Tooth Fairy for the win!
My absolute favorite is The Sweet Tooth Fairy bake shop. Their cookies and cupcakes are incredible, and they make great gifts for friends. The shop is so cute, and the owners are wonderful! I honestly daydream about Sweet Tooth Fairy treats!
Ive never lived in Provo, but I have been there several times and The Sweet Tooth Fairy is the best. I love their cupcakes. Especially the custom cupcakes. :) :) They are adorable and super tasty. :)
Nicolitalia's Pizzeria on University Parkway. Sooooooo good, and Best of State 2009 Winner in the category for pizza. The owner is from Boston and fun to listen to, too.
Plain cheese thin crust is even absolutely amazing!
